    VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

    The Centre for Mental Health and Counselling – Nepal (CMC-Nepal), a national-level NGO dedicated to promoting mental health and psychosocial well-being, is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Psychologist and Psychosocial Counsellor under the ‘Psychosocial well-being of children, adolescents, caregivers and vulnerable population improved through psychosocial interventions in earthquake affected communities in Jajarkot and Rukum (West). This project is supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)-Nepal. This project addresses the psychosocial needs of the earthquake affected and vulnerable populations of 4 local level in Jajarkot (Kuse, Barekot, Bheri, Nalagad) and 3 local level in Rukum West (Aathbiskot, Chaurjahari, Sanibheri) districts of Karnali Province, including children and people with disabilities identified, and provides response through coordinated psychosocial services including referral for specialized services.

    1. Job title: Psychologist 

    Number of Positions: 2 (Two)

    Location: Jajarkot and Rukum (West)

    Duties and responsibilities for the position:

    • Coordinate with local level to expand services through existing trained health workers, teachers, and community psychosocial workers, ensuring child friendly and gender-sensitive support
    • Facilitate training to frontline service providers attended trauma informed care and stress management sessions and loss/grief and healing sessions at school and communities
    • Training, mentoring and providing supervision to the psychosocial counsellors in psychosocial counselling to the earthquake affected people, with focus to the children and adolescents. 
    • Conduct field-level backstopping supervision to the psychosocial counsellors on individual cases, and provide psychosocial counselling to more difficult clients together with PS counsellors during field-level supervision visits.
    • Support in documentation of psychosocial counselling service provided by psychosocial counsellors (case analysis documents, psychosocial intervention plan, session note, progress checklist, exit pole interview, referral for other services etc).  
    • Assess the situation for cases who need specialized mental health service and extend coordination in higher-level mental health service facilities or psychiatrists reaching community-level mental health service points for the immediate intervention 
    • Participate in the regular review and coordination with the government and or partners as and when necessary and present/ share project activities on a monthly/ quarterly basis.
    • Participate in the protection cluster meetings at district and local level
    • Ensure that all the planned activities are implemented in the project local level and district as per the approved work plan 
    • Prepare and submit comprehensive field visit reports and reports of project intervention promptly and in line with required quality standards.

    Qualification and experience requirements:

    • Master’s degree in psychology or counselling psychology or mental health social work or master degree in any discipline with PGD in Counselling from recognized university with two years of experience as a psychosocial supervisor under close supervision from expert clinical psychologists/ psychologists.  
    • At least two years of working experience as a psychosocial supervisor or psychologist, working with conflict-affected people in disaster situations or earthquake response or COVID-19 pandemic situation or GBV survivors or migrant workers 
    • Having strong experience in conducting training in psychosocial counselling and supervision of psychosocial counsellors, community psychosocial workers and other developmental actors 
    • Having good comprehension and learning attitude in psychosocial interventions
    • Practical and strong background in supervising psychosocial counselling skills of counsellors and health workers. At least two years of practice in supervising local psychosocial counsellors and health workers will be an advantage for the post.  
    • Demonstrate ability to establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
    • Willingness to undertake field visits in difficult conditions.

    2. Job title: Psychosocial Counsellor

    Number of positions: 4 (Four)

    Location: Local Level of Jajarkot and Rukum (West)

    Duties and responsibilities for the position:

    • Conduct family sensitization on psychosocial wellbeing and self-care, identification of distress, ways to support children with disability
    • Organize community sensitization on supporting children and adolescents with disabilities and their psychosocial need
    • Provide one to one psychosocial counselling at community level, follow-up and referral 
    • Link children and adolescents with disabilities and their families with livelihood, disability benefits, relief efforts and emergency assistance 
    • Mobilize trained frontline workers to provide psychosocial support to children and adolescent with and at risk of mental health conditions and disabilities 
    • Document psychosocial counselling service provided (case analysis documents, psychosocial intervention plan, session note, progress checklist, exit pole interview, referral for other services etc).  
    • Participate in the regular review and coordination meeting organized at local level and share project activities on a monthly/ quarterly basis.

    Qualification and experience requirements:

    • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Social Work or Public Health or PCL in General Medicine or Nursing, and be trained on a 6-month psychosocial counselling course under the NHTC or any other recognized professional organization. 
    • At least two years of experience having worked as a psychosocial counsellor, preferably working in earthquake and COVID-19 pandemic situation   
    • Having good comprehension and learning attitude in psychosocial interventions
    • Must be highly motivated to work in multi-cultural/ contextual, difficult, and challenging situations, and is expected to have strong leadership and coordination/ communication skills. 
    • Must have basic computer skills—MS Word, Excel, PPT, familiar with e-mail correspondence.
    • The candidate should be knowledgeable in writing a report in English and Nepali languages.
    • Demonstrate ability to work in multi-sectoral approach and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
    • Willingness to undertake field visits in difficult conditions.

    Salaries and benefits:  As per the project agreement between the UNICEF and CMC-Nepal
